Brent Allen Parrish

  There's a lot going on behind the scenes here at woven-media.com. This site just launched on 14 May 2008. woven-media.com is ME: Brent Allen Parrish. I'm a computer consultant and aspiring writer who has been helped countless times since my software career began back in 1996 by the generous internet postings of examples and source code by faceless kind souls that literally "saved my butt" on more than a few occasions. This is my way of trying to give back to the developer community at large. I've wanted to do this for a while and now I'm doing it.

  The site design is being updated constantly right now. You never know what you might find here from day to day. Right now, the web pages are static, meaning pure html (standards-compliant of course!), but all the content is being ported over to a C Sharp .NET solution as I write. There's a lot to solidifing a site and database design and the process is underway.

  The current design was originally intended to be for my blog, but I decided I wouldn't wait to do some formal launch of the site where all the content had to be in place and all that. Book publishing requires that all the chapters, copy-editing, illustrations and photos be in the rightful places before publication. The beauty of a web site and is all changes can be made instantly. So why wait?

  There will probably be a more utilitarian, almost bauhaus design, for the tutorial and code pages - functional, yet elegant, which maximizes the use of screen "real estate". There will be a lot of topics and examples covering everything from HTML, JavaScript, Java^TM, SQL, C++, UML, PHP, MySQL, PostGres, SQL Server...you get the picture!

  Hopefully, you're watching the infant beginnings of an enthusiastic developer community. Porting the site to a true web application will make it possible to implement the community tools (blogs, archives, forums) needed to build a community.

  I'm also an adult junior undergraduate student taking computer science courses at I.U.P.U.I. I'm very keen to hear from educators and students regarding their ideas for tutorials, articles and open-source software. I'll be documenting my journey through my studies in computer science, but I'd prefer to do so in a way that will prove beneficial to both students, educators and anyone interested in computing.
