About woven-media.com
An Experiment in Design!
Welcome to woven-media.com! This site is an experiment in web and software design dedicated to the promotion of open-source software development and standards-compliance. Put simply, "...distributed peer review and transparency of process." - quote from Open Source Initiative Computer hardware is becoming increasingly faster and cheaper, but software development is becoming vastly more complex in an effort to harness the power of affordable and abundant hardware. It's an inverse relationship that now is referred to as an incarnation of Moore's Law. Laws can be broken and at times MUST be broken for the greater good. The internet and the concept of communities gives us all a powerful tool for the free exchange of knowledge and ideas. Peer review is vital and necessary process for scientists and should be for software developers as well. The virtual internet "community" is custom-tailored for encapsulating vast and complex stores of knowledge and data. The goal of this site is to offer educators, students, developers, scientists, and anyone interested in computing, free resources and tools for advanced learning. There will be tutorials, articles, free open-source GPL distributions, interviews and much much more. I pledge that there will be no disparagement of others here. Professionalism and courtesy is what you'll find. Criticisms of concepts and technology will certainly be discussed - all part of the peer review process - but not personalities over principles. I LOVE to code. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Whether you are a ten year old kid just learning to program or a senior software engineer for JPL laboratories wishing to offer advice, please feel free! Hope it helps and enjoy!
